Spring Break
Mission Trips

Our desire, as we hope is yours, is to see the name of Jesus magnified and exalted on our campus, in the lives of our lost friends, and ultimately around the globe.

the purpose

Following the example set by Christ in Matthew 28:19-20, we are called to make disciples of all nations. In keeping with that, there are many opportunities to make disciples by serving within InterVarsity, in our community through local partners, and abroad with our global partners as well.

Our chapter's global mission is to reach beyond the walls of our campus by bringing students and the poor together cross-culturally to encounter God, share the Good News, and serve others through ministry.

During my time in Costa Rica, God taught me a lot about what it means to truly “show mercy” (Matthew 9:13). The way our days were structured around different vocational ministry activities didn’t always lend itself to standard Gospel presentations or what many think of as “traditional” missions work (not to mention the language barrier!) However, I realized that “showing mercy” and living missionally can still be present in so many ways––whether it is through conversations over cafecito (coffee), intense workouts, math homework, or making hamburgers for a cooking class. I’m challenged to think more about how I can continue to “show mercy” in my daily activities when I’m back at JMU.

Dominican Republic

We had the opportunity to serve in Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic. We served at various sites such as men’s sports, women’s social work, education, micro finance and many other sites. We also served alongside a group of high schoolers and a group from Grand Canyon University. It was a blessing to grow closer to one another but also to get to serve the site leaders and people of the community. The Lord was able to move in the lives of our team for people struggling with depression, people who were unsure of their faith, and students who wanted to see what it looked like to serve in a different country, the Lord showed up so much!

The purpose of our trip to Guatemala was to expand and increase SI’s relationship with the community. It was a great overall experience being immersed in the culture through our host families and being in the center of the town. God is certainly moving in Guatemala and we got the blessing to play a small role in the bigger mission of expanding the kingdom through nurturing and loving relationships.
